FhGFS Upgrade Notes: Version 2012.10 to 2014.01 =============================================== This document contains the relevant changes for users who are upgrading from the 2012.10 release series to the 2014.01 release series. * General Upgrade Procedure: To upgrade to the new 2014.01 release series, simply stop all FhGFS services, upgrade the existing 2012.10 release series packages to the new 2014.01 release series packages and then restart all FhGFS services. To get the new packages, you will typically download the repository file for your distribution from "http://www.fhgfs.com/release/fhgfs_2014.01/dists" and then use the package manager of your distribution to automatically update the packages, e.g. "yum update" on RHEL. * New Data Layout: The data layout of the storage servers has changed with the 2014.01 release. The new 2014.01 release servers are compatible with the former 2012.10 storage format. No separate upgrade tools are needed to convert existing data to the new storage format. Old data will continue to exist in the old format, while new files will be created in the new format. * Version Interoperability: Clients and servers of 2012.10 and 2014.01 releases are not interoperable and thus cannot be used together in the same file system instance. * Config Files: FhGFS version 2012.10 release config files are compatible with the 2014.01 release. However, as new options were added to the config files, it is recommended to either remove the old config files or to take a look at the new config files to see the new options. Config file paths and the mandatory values that need to be set in the config files are still the same as in the 2012.10 release series. * General Changes: A list of general changes is available in the changelog at: http://www.fhgfs.com/release/fhgfs_2014.01/Changelog.txt
